About

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

Who We Are

Kate Conyers and Jesse Nix met working at Salt Lake Legal Defenders, the most experienced and recognized criminal defense firm in Utah. They have represented clients charged with felonies and misdemeanors, including homicide, rape, sexual abuse, aggravated assault, possession of firearm and drugs, theft, domestic violence, DUI’s, and traffic offenses. Their experience in the courtroom includes jury trials, bench trials, preliminary hearings, motions, cross-examinations of witnesses, pleadings, and sentencings. They both have served thousands of clients—each with unique facts, strategies, and outcomes. Their experience made them eager to create and cultivate their own practice, one that would effectively intersect their expertise with their respective passion to serve people in the community.

Few criminal defense attorneys in Utah have been involved with the community as Kate and Jesse. They believe that what wins a case and what helps their community is the passion that drives it. Choosing to specialize in criminal defense means that you are completely devoted to it; that you will protect it as if it were your own. That is the energy that sets them apart.

PARTNER

Jesse M. Nix

Jesse began his legal career working for the Salt Lake District Attorney in 2008, but quickly learned that he’d rather defend someone who made a mistake rather than put an innocent person in jail. His interest in helping people at their worst moments comes from his belief that every person, regardless of their background or crime, deserves the best defense. He joined the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association (LDA) in 2012 where he excelled at achieving excellent results for his clients, despite at times having the highest caseload of any attorney. Recognizing his legal skills and ability to teach others, Jesse became LDA’s intern coordinator. He was responsible for training law students from the University of Utah and Brigham Young University on how to practice criminal defense.

Jesse was recognized for his legal expertise when he became the youngest person in Utah history to be nominated by Salt Lake County’s Judicial Nominating Commission to become a Judge in the Salt Lake City Justice Court. Although he was not ultimately selected by Mayor Jackie Biskupski, Jesse’s passion for helping people at their worst moments persuaded Jesse to form Conyers & Nix.
